The US has been hit hard by the virus, seeing the highest number of cases worldwide at 3,363,056. The US President has been attacked by Democrats and Republicans for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. As the November 3 election draws closer, Mr Trump has started campaigning for re-election against former Vice President Joe Biden.

In a strange answer, Mr Trump appeared to pin coronavirus testing issues on Mr Obama and Mr Biden.

Aaron Rupar, journalist at Vox, tweeted a clip of Mr Trump’s answer to a question on how to stop the spread of the virus.

Mr Trump then appeared to bring up Mr Obama’s lack of testing for a virus.

Mr Rupar said: “Trump absurdly tries to blame Obama for problems with testing for COVID-19, which didn’t exist until nearly three years after he left office.”

The clip showed that Mr Trump said in answer to the question about stopping the spread of coronavirus: “If you know, Biden and Obama stopped their testing; they just stopped it.

“You probably know that.

“I’m sure you don’t want to report it.

“But they stopped testing.

“Right in the middle, they just went, “No more testing,” and on a much lesser problem than the problem that we have, obviously with respect to — this is the worst thing that’s happened since probably 1917.

“This is a very bad — all over the world.”

Twitter users were outraged at what appeared to be Mr Trump blaming the former president for the outbreak worsening.

One user said: “The 4 year olds I teach, don’t act like this.”

Another said: “How exactly does he think Obama and Biden stopped testing for COVID-19 when it didn’t even exist when they were in office.“

Other users pointed out that Mr Trump was referencing 2009’s swine flu pandemic.

One user said: “To be entirely fair he’s presumably talking about ebola or another virus here.

“Doesn’t make that clear though.“

Another was furious at Mr Rupar, and added: “Out of context attacks like this fuel his ‘fake news’ attacks and give them weight.

“Stop giving him ammo.

“Attack him for the countless real dumb reasons.”

It’s not the first time that Mr Trump has brought up Mr Obama when answering questions about coronavirus.

In March, he claimed that the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention “inherited a broken test” from the former president, without saying whether he was referring to coronavirus or swine flu.

Mr Trump said: “When CDC first looked at their test, the biggest problem they had is, the test didn’t work.

“That wasn’t from us.

“That’s been there a long time.

“Now we have the best tests in the world.”
