Porn star arrested for ‘making adult video’ in sacred forest

An adult film star who allegedly made a porn parody of ancient African religious rites has been arrested for desecrating one of Nigeria’s most sacred sites.

Tobiloba Jolaosho, better known by his professional name King Tblak HOC, has been accused of recording a "sex movie" at Osun Osogbo.

Osun Sacred Grove, on the outskirts of the city of Osogbo in Nigeria, is a patch of untouched virgin forest dedicated to the goddess of divinity, femininity, fertility, beauty and love in the Yoruba religion. Hunting, logging and farming are all prohibited on the site.

Jolaosho allegedly sparked controversy after he uploaded an adult video of himself to his social media accounts.

In it, he appears at the world heritage site dressed in a white priestly robe, reports BBC.

Following Jolaosho's arrest, police spokesman Opalola Yemisi said the movie producer's behaviour “could have breached public peace” and that an official investigation is under way.

The sacred groves were once dotted all over Nigeria but with the growth of urbanisation they have one by one been destroyed and Osun Osogbo is the last of its kind.

Osun is one of the 401 Yoruba gods, and a version of her appears in a number of African and South American religious traditions.

Osun Osogbo is still used for regular worship, and an annual 12-day festival in July and August draws huge numbers to the 190-acre site which is dotted with sanctuaries and shrines, sculptures and art works in honour of Osun and other religious figures

Yemi Elebuibon, a believer in the ancient Yoruba religious tradition, told the BBC that Jolaosho had allegedly desecrated the sacred forest.

He added that the traditional worshippers who maintain the grove will decide what additional punishment the porn performer deserves, if found guilty, after the police investigation is concluded.

Jolaosho has yet to issue any comment on the controversy.
