The former FLOTUS claimed that as a result of being locked down due to the deadly virus, she had been able to spend more time with her daughters Sasha and Malia, as well as Barack. During that period, the four grew closer, the 56-year-old said, who told chat show host Conan O’Brien that she had even taught her daughters how to play cards, as well as other new activities. She said: “The girls were still in classes in the spring and we’d be working and then doing a little exercise and then come together in the evenings.

“We had these activities – we’d have cocktails and then we’d all work on puzzles and play games. We actually had some organised things too, like we had an art exhibit day where we all went off and did watercolour painting and then we showed them to each other later.”

And although the foursome enjoyed family time, months of quarantining together did eventually take its toll, with Michelle admitting that her daughters were keen to go back to their normal lives.

Despite being married to Barack for nearly 30 years, Michelle also poked fun at her husband, and the former US President.

She explained that Barack had been working on his memoir, which is set to be released after next month’s US election and is called ‘A Promised Land’.

Michelle said: “I think our kids got a little fed up with us at first… which was fine because we got pretty fed up with them.

“And so summer started and then we could be outside a little bit more and we got to the vineyard where we are still, and so there is more space to roam… that was good because it helped us break open it. And now the children are back with lessons in Zoom-Land.

“They do it remotely. And they are no longer excited to be with us.”

She added: “But then Barack has sort of got on my nerves because I haven’t seen him enough, so he can’t win.”

Michelle became one of the world’s most recognisable and influential women, as she supported Barack during his eight-year stay in the White House.

Despite her successes, which include becoming a millionaire thanks in part to her best-selling memoir ‘Becoming’, the former First Lady of the United States is incredibly protective of her children’s private lives.

While Barack was President, he and Michelle both ensured that his role would not get in the way of their upbringing, which meant the pair had to make alterations to their schedules – even if Barack was leading one of the world’s most powerful nations.

Discussing the sacrifices with her mother Marian and brother Craig Robinson on ‘The Michelle Obama Podcast’ episode, Michelle explained: “Even as Barack being the President of the United States, he worked his schedule around their schedule.

“They weren’t waiting until 9pm to eat because dad was running late.

“They never couldn’t not go somewhere or do something because of dad. I never wanted them to resent the presidency, or resent what their dad did.”
