Hero brother who saved baby left to starve by mum ‘bullied out of school’

A 13-year-old boy who kept his baby sister alive in a wardrobe has been "hounded out of his school by bullies".

The lad fed the emaciated child – born in April – after their mother allegedly rejected the tiny girl and hid her away, banning him from telling anyone about her.

He looked up on the web how to care for the child and used a syringe without a needle to get food into her mouth, and later baby biscuits soaked with milk, say reports.

Emergency workers in Russia believe he was the girl's "saviour", and that without his help she would have died of neglect.

It was at the boy Matvey's 13th birthday party that a family friend heard the whimpering of the child, Katya, and found her inside a duffle bag in a spare room wardrobe.

An ambulance and police were called, and the mother confessed to hiding away the child.

Katya is now recovering in intensive care, and despite being badly malnourished is expected to survive.

"The child's condition is stable," said spokeswoman Elena Zhukova.

The children's mother Yulia, 37, has been detained amid reports in Karpinsk that she "hoped that the baby would pass away from starvation".

She faces a criminal investigation and is suspected of "torturing" the child, an offence leading to up to seven years in jail.

Matvey has been hailed as a "saviour" for feeding the child even though his mother banned him from doing so.

She had not registered the girl's birth in April and had kept her in a wardrobe ever since.

Yet when the boy went to school after the story emerged in his town, he faced "bullying" and was seen "rushing out of the school in tears", according to reports.

He's now in the care of his grandparents Alexander and Natalia Dranitsyn who say they will arrange home schooling for him.

A friend's mother said: "His own mother said not to tell anyone about the newborn girl, and he was silent.

"But she also forbade him to feed the baby.

"Instead he showed compassion, gave his sister food without the permission of his mother.

"He was not afraid of his parent's anger. And this shows his strength of character."

Yulia's other child Valeria, three, told friends at nursery school that she had a "living doll", referring to her starving sister.

The girl informed her teacher: "Your dolls here are ugly, but I have Katya at home, a living doll."

The teacher is now in "shock" having believed the girl was "fantasising".

The birth came after an acrimonious breakup with her partner Andrey Zykov, it was reported.
