Donald Trump and Joe Biden have been awaiting the results of polls across America’s 50 states overnight, and the most important election in a generation begins to draw to a close. Mr Biden has been polling ahead of the incumbent nationally for a number of weeks now, but the race has come down to the wire with both candidates currently scraping to reach the all-important 270 Electoral College seats needed to win the White House.

Results suggest a tight race in the key battlegrounds of the Midwest and Rust Belt of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Mr Trump has now flipped the odds to become the bookies favourite to win the presidency, following weeks of safe bets on his opponent Mr Biden.

According to Betfair, the President reversed the odds from 2/1 (33 percent) when the first polls closed across various states – with his chance of re-election rising to as high as 1/4 (80 percent chance) earlier in the night.

However, Mr Biden remains hot on his tail after his odds improved from as far out as 4/1 (20 percent chance) when Trump gained momentum to his current odds of 13/8 (38 percent chance).
