£140k reward for man who ‘disappeared off the face of the earth’ 15 years ago

The mystery of a man who "disappeared off the face of the earth” remains unsolved 15 years after he failed to turn up to work for his shift at a Sydney café in 2006.

Today, police announced an A$250,000 (£138,000) reward for any information on Simon Knight, as his distraught parents say they still have no idea what happened to him.

South Sydney Police Area Commander, Superintendent Andrew Holland, says he believes that someone out there knows what happened to the 32-year-old chef.

"We believe there are people in the community who have vital information about Mr Knight’s movements on the day he was last seen, and possibly, his whereabouts – information that could help us solve this case," he said.

Mr Knight hasn’t touched his bank account since going missing and the bike he was riding was never located, raising fears for his safety.

"Basically he has disappeared off the face of the earth," Superintendent Holland said.

"We're at the end of the investigation,” he added. “We've exhausted all our avenues and that is why we are appealing for public assistance at this time .

An inquest held in 2008 found it unlikely that Mr Knight was dead and a reward of $100,000 was announced at the time.

Mr Knight's mother, Robyn Conlan, said the hardest thing was not knowing what had happened to her son.

"Our son has been missing for over 15 years and his father, sister, brother and I need to know what happened to him," she said.

Bob Knight, the missing man's father, added: "It's hard on all the family, his brother and sister, everyone suffered.

"Simon wouldn't just disappear".

He also said: "I don't want to die not knowing what actually happened to him…it's the worst thing a parent could go through."

At the time of his disappearance, Simon was described as being just over 6ft tall, with blue eyes, a fair complexion, red hair and facial hair.

He was last seen at the Crown City Motel in Surry Hills on the morning of Thursday July 21, 2005, wearing a green T-shirt and blue jeans.
